I’ve not been very active on the blog, I know, but I have been busy with other writing related things. Or more specifically, I’ve just finished the first draft of the first book in my new YA Dystopian series. I’ve loved science fiction since before I started reading fantasy, and I’m really drawn towards the dystopia genre, so this new series really was the most logical thing for me to write. To give you a better idea of what the book is about, here is the book description I’ve come up so far. It’s not the final version yet, so if you have any suggestions on how to improve it, or just some general thoughts on how well it works, I’d love to hear them. I’m still working on a title for the book and the series.
DESCRIPTION:
In 2100 the earth is slowly dying, plagued by draughts, floods, and blizzards that come in the middle of summer. The rich and powerful of North America have pulled back into the six remaining megacitites, erasing all trace of a central government and leaving the millions displaced by the environmental crisis to fend for themselves in the badlands. But sixteen year old Maya is certain she was born with the power to heal the earth.
The only place she can learn to use her gift is a school, which is run by the ruthless head of the city of Neo York. But the school is only a front for a facility that will extract Maya’s magic and then discard her. Only Ty, the heir to the city, can keep Maya from entering the facility. And Ty’s loyalty to his family has never wavered.

I’m starting the revision tomorrow, and I hope to release the book by the end of March 2014. In the meantime I’ll post regular updates and some sample chapters.

Sweet! The description of the new series sounds wonderful. I like it, it’s very understandable. Suggestion: maybe take out the “and” between the drought and floods and just add a comma. Should “trace” be “traces” in that sentence?
Will the series be standalone books that connects or will it be an on going story with the same main characters?
So far it’s wonderful and I’m looking forward to it! Keep up the great work Vanna!
Hey! Glad to hear you like the description and idea for the new series. It will be an on going story, though I’ll try to keep the cliffhangers to a minimum 🙂
Thanks for your suggestions. I think you’re right about the comma in the first sentence. I’m glad you found it understandable and clear, since writing book descriptions is really hard for me 🙂
You don’t really need to be told how much I’m looking forward to this do you 😉
Awesome! I’m still very glad to hear it though 🙂
Sounds like a great and interesting concept. Will this be a trilogy? What is the series called?
Glad you like the concept 🙂 I have a plan for a four book series, though I might squeeze it all into a trilogy. I’m still working on the title, though I hope to have it nailed by the time I finish the next revision.
