Today I am participating in yet another great blog hop organized by Carrie Ann Ryan. The prizes are awesome, and the chances to win numerous.
BLACK FRIDAY — I always thought the name sounded so ominous and dark. Kind of like Ash Wednesday in Catholic countries. I could just picture all the priests, knights, fair ladies, beggars and thieves running around cobbled streets of medieval European cities and towns. You can imagine my disappointment when I finally looked up the meaning of Black Firday and found out it was all about profit. According to Wikipedia, Black Friday refers to retailers finally starting to make a profit after the fall slump in sales. More precisely, the Black Friday sales bring them out of the “red” or negative numbers in accounting into black, positive, numbers.
What about you? Why did you think Black Friday was called Black? Comment below and leave your email address (in the comment) for a chance to win these great prizes:
1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet
2nd Grand Prize: A $75 Amazon or B&N Gift Card
3rd Grand Prize: A Swag Pack that contains paperbacks, ebooks, 50+ bookmarks, cover flats, magnets, pens, coffee cozies, and more!
That’s now all though. I have made my novel PROTECTOR (Anniversary of the Veil, Book 1) FREE in the Kindle store.
Please download a copy and Happy Holidays!

Thanks for the free download. I believe it was orginally called black friday because it was when business would go into the black from sales. I am glad to have found you on the blog hop. I look forward to reading your work. Kim86004(at)gmail(dot)com

We don`t have Black Friday sales here (I`m an international reader), so I`m just attending giveaways like this one, lol. So I haven`t actually thought about its origins.

Black Friday is called that because it was designed to put retailers in the black in the ledger books :O) I avoid the crowds and stay home myself. Carin

I knew that “black” in Black Friday was the day retailers came out of the “red” and had positive net profits. 🙂
Thanks for the download. Can’t wait to read.

I am not sure why it’s black friday one thought is that you are either in the black or in the red so saving money is in the black. I don’t shop on black Friday.
crystaley73 at yahoo dot com
no BF shopping; it’s called BF because retailers make money and get out of the red
Thanks for participating.

I don’t ever remember thinking it was anything but sales numbers “being in the black”, but I also never really worried about it 🙂

ack…thought my copy paste was my email addy….ignore the twitter post. I shopped earlier, it’s been a long day. isabelli3619 (at) aol (dot) com
That’s an awfully big prize for such a little question.
I don’t remember a time when I didn’t know what it meant. This may have to do with the fact that I was involved in running a small business from a relatively young age.
thanks for the free download i went my local shopping mall for a gift card giveaway angelwolfmystic@yahoo.com
Hi! Happy Holidays to you! No, im not a shopper on black friday. I hate crowds. I like to stay home, spend time with my family and eat leftovers. 🙂 Thanks for the awesome hop and giveaway! Best wishes and many blessings to you!

Working in retail for many years, I had a pretty good idea what Black Friday meant, beside Hell day LOL .
vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)c0m
I think they call it Black Friday because you have to show up before the sun is even shining to get a good deal. While the day is not for me, I hope everybody got the bargains they were looking for.
Thanks so much for being a part of the hop and for the giveaway.
Happy Holidays,
Marlena

I have no idea why they call it Black Friday. If it is red, money is lost so maybe that is why. Either way, I stay home. Thank you for the free download, looking forward to reading. Thank you for being a part of the hop.
cmucha319@yahoo.com
Thanks for the free read! The best part of this blog hop is finding new and interesting books to add to my to be read pile.
krankimom[at]comcast[dot]net
I figured it was called Black because to me being in that mess is very depressing and I would be in a black moody mood if I went shopping lol
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

Thank you for the lovely giveaway and free book! I know Black Friday is called Black because it’s the day retailers try to get their sales out of the red and into the black (which is good!). I think my friend told me that in high school when she got her first job, lol.
